A special workshop was convened by Dr. Ray Hilborn and his team from Centre for Sustaining Seafood at School of Aquatic and Fisheries Science, University of Washington to discuss the issues that impede science based decision making.

 

There were three topic groups viz. (i) Status of fisheries and building capacity to assess fisheries status (ii) The sustainability of bottom trawling. (iii) Area based management, marine protected areas, and other effective conservation measures.

 

Dr. Krishnan participated in the "Status of fisheries and building capacity to assess fisheries status" group and contributed to the deliberations.

 

Eminent scientists from across the world attended this workshop held in the sidelines of the World Fisheries Congress, scheduled during 5 to 7 March 2024.
