The BOBP-IGO and FAO held a virtual meeting on 01 February 2022 to discus the implementation of the upcoming #BOBLME Project and other areas of mutual interest. Dr Simon Funge-Smith, Senior Fisheries Officer, Dr Susana Siar, Fishery & Aquaculture Officer and Ms Angela Lentisco, Consultant of the FAO Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific took part. Dr Funge-Smith congratulated Dr P Krishnan on assuming charge as Director, BOBP-IGO and provided an overview of the BOBLME project. Dr Krishnan informed that the IGO would implement the project in close coordination with the BOBP member-countries, who look forward to the start of the BOBLME Project. Dr Funge-Smith and Dr Krishnan also discussed the need for improving regional stock assessment. Dr E Vivekanandan, Fisheries Expert, also attended the meeting and provided inputs on the recent developments in stock assessment in India. FAO and BOBP-IGO agreed to work together to address the issue, on priority, in partnership with national expert agencies, so as to contribute to the sustainable management of the regional fisheries resources.
