Dr. Krishnan, Director, BOBP delivered the Key note address during the GAF 8, a global conference on gender at Kochi organized by AFS and ICAR-CIFT.
He highlighted the non-availability of gender disaggregated data for policy making and participation of women in works which do not have adequate regulatory support (eg. marketing in open places and seed collection.).
He said that the participation of women in fisheries sector from states with high production and education status, has not been as high as they could be.
The female sex ratio among the fishing community is decreasing compared that among overall population in India, unless checked, may lead to their marginalization , he said.
Dr. Krishnan called for developing gender- accommodating technologies, to ensure organic participation of women in active fishing arena.
