A multi-institutional, transdisciplinary project on “Developing and Pilot testing Specialized Knowledge Products on Human Wildlife Conflict (HWC) Mitigation in India” implemented in technical collaboration with GIZ, German International Development Fund, was launched at ICAR-NAARM, Hyderabad on 24 Jan 2022. Dr. Neeraj Khera, Team Leader- HWC Mitigation Project, GIZ-India explained the progress already made under the national project and the specific outcomes expected from the ICAR-NAARM-GIZ study component. Dr. G. Venkateshwarlu, Joint Director, NAARM expressed hope that this project will serve as a platform to demonstrate the spirit of collaboration among diverse stakeholders. Dr. Ch. Srinivasa Rao, Director, ICAR-NAARM and Team Leader of the Project, expressed that functional networks of the Academy will be leveraged to enhance the reach of the knowledge products developed under this project. Earlier, Dr. P. Krishnan, Director-BOBP-IGO and Coordinator of the Project presented an overview of the project activities. He indicated that rising number of conflicts between human and wildlife (HWC) not only lead to loss of life and property but also challenges our coexistence and undermines conservation efforts. He assured BOBP will strive to take the learnings from the project to the stakeholders in the region as well.
