A team of senior officials of SIST (Deemed University) visited the BOBP Secretariat on 23rd July 2022. Dr. P. Krishnan welcomed the guests and illustrated how the synergy between both the organizations could be leveraged to address issues of topical importance in marine fisheries sector like fisheries resource management, ecosystem management, use of IoT and AI in fisheries and capacity building.
Dr. B. Sheela Rani, Director of Research and Former Vice Chancellor, SIST provided an overview of the educational programmes and research activities of the institution. She highlighted that SIST is ranked among the top 100 universities globally for its work on SDG 14 and the university was first in the country to launch a satellite for pollution monitoring.
Dr. Krishnan suggested that the IGO shall provide a platform to students of SIST pursuing research in management, law, life sciences and social sciences, to work on various regional issues under the guidance of eminent experts. It was recognized that contributing to the lives and livelihoods of the fishers across the region will be a fitting tribute to the visionary Founder of SIST who, himself belonged to the community. In his memory, SIST would partner with BOBP to promote fisheries research and also enable students from the neighboring countries to enroll in their programs.
