The 37th session of The Asia-Pacific Fishery Commission (APFIC) was convened in Qingdao, China from 13th to 15th June 2023, in hybrid mode. The session was attended by representatives from 15 member nations, FAO member country observers, and representatives from four regional fishery organizations viz., BOBP-IGO, INFOFISH, SEAFDEC and NACA. It provided an overview on the current status and future of fisheries and aquaculture sectors in the region.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. P. Krishnan, Director, BOBP-IGO commended APFIC for successfully organizing the 37th Session and recalled the close cooperation between BOBP and APFIC and collaborative activities undertaken jointly. He highlighted the initiatives taken by the BOBP for strengthening collaboration among the countries in evidence-based fisheries management. “The BOBP-IGO hopes to work closely with the Commission during the BOBLME Phase II and contribute to mainstreaming sustainable development principles within the fisheries and aquaculture sectors in the Asia-Pacific region”, he said.
