Dr. P. Krishnan, Director of BOBP-IGO, participated as a panelist and lead speaker at the Indo-Pacific Future Forum 2024 on Dec 15-16, 2024.

 

The virtual forum brought together leading experts, policymakers, scholars, and researchers from across the Indo-Pacific region to discuss key issues impacting the region!

 

Dr. Krishnan shared his expertise on South Asia's role in the Indo-Pacific region and emphasized the need for cooperation in fisheries management in the Bay of Bengal/BIMSTEC region.

 

Emphasizing the need to address pressing fisheries issues in the Bay of Bengal, despite the slight increase in production, the region's share in fisheries production has decreased, highlighting challenges related to stocks and stock status he said.

 

Dr. Krishnan proposed improving management, promoting trade, and scientific collaboration to address these challenges. The Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) can play a crucial role in promoting cooperation among member countries.
